1. The necessity of developing the CNC plasma cutting machine


The development and application of the CNC plasma cutting machine aim to improve the production efficiency of machining enterprises.


However, the traditional flame cutting method has great inconvenience in daily use due to its single cutting material.


With the wide application of stainless steel, aluminum and other materials, it is necessary to develop plasma cutting technology.


2. The application of the CNC plasma cutting machine


The CNC plasma cutting machine has been continually developed. In the beginning, it is used to cut stainless steel, aluminum and other materials.


Nowadays, plasma cutting technology has been used to cut carbon steel, which is comparable to the traditional flame cutting method. The main reason is that the CNC plasma cutting machine is fast, and it is easy to set cutting conditions. Therefore, it is more suitable for automated and unmanned operations.


However, the flame needs to be adjusted frequently in the gas cutting process, and there is a slow cutting speed. Besides, the preheating time limits the cutting productivity. Therefore, it is not suitable for automated and unmanned operations.


The key technology of air or oxygen plasma cutting is consumable issues in the cutting torch of the CNC plasma cutting machine.


Due to the oxidation of air or oxygen, the electrodes and nozzles in the cutting torch of the CNC plasma cutting machine have to be resistant to the high temperature of the arc in the oxidizing atmosphere.


Therefore, the electrodes of the current CNC plasma cutting machine are made of high-melting aluminum material, and are embedded in the copper of the CNC plasma cutting machine with a special processing method.


The nozzle of the CNC plasma cutting machine adopts a double-layer airflow structure, which can improve the airflow direction, speed, purity of ion gas and cooling. Besides, it protects the nozzle and further compresses the arc.


In addition, when the arc is started, the cutting gas of the CNC plasma cutting machine does not use pure oxygen but a mixture of nitrogen-oxygen in order to reduce the electrode consumption.


Moreover, in the cutting process of the CNC plasma cutting machine, the contact of the nozzle with the cutting material will also damage the nozzle. This requires efforts to control the cutting height of the CNC plasma cutting machine.


In a word, the service life of the electrode and nozzle of the current CNC plasma cutting machine has been greatly improved than before, and the corresponding oxygen plasma cutting current has reached 500A. According to the literature, for 400A oxygen plasma cutting, the electrode of each CNC plasma cutting machine can work for 3.5h, and each nozzle can work for 4.8h.
